Hi, I'm Annie

Journalist by way of photographyreporting and data. I'm interested in how we tell the stories that surround us, whether it's through words, visuals or interactive pieces built from code.

Currently, I'm the education reporter at the Charlotte Observer, where I cover Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, one of the country's top 20 largest districts.

Previously, I was an editorial fellow at Mother Jones, where I fact-checked pieces for the print magazine and wrote for the site. Before that, I was at the San Francisco Chronicle covering metro and occasional business news. In college, I interned at The OregonianThe Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Chalkbeat New York.

Over the summer of 2018, I was part of the Asian American Journalist Association's Voices program, reporting an investigative piece on the media industry's struggles with pay equity.

I graduated from Dartmouth College in June of 2017, where I studied a mix of political science, statistics and computer science. In 2016, I served as the executive editor of The Dartmouth, my college's print daily.
